Google searches the world instantly better than Finder finds what I need on my local volume. Trying to find the group of items that you've been dealing with the past few weeks? It's not going to be clear and easy results. Have a typo searching for a file that you use nearly every day for the past year? Finder won't have a clue what you want. Perhaps they want to give NeoFinder a solid userbase. SJobs would probably consider this a tortured interface - spotlight in the upper right corner of the screen used to find all results nearly instantly in real time. For me every trip to Spotlight requires me to then continue to "see results in Finder" which then shows the complete list.

Spotlight is perhaps the actual "finder" and once the user figures out how to turn off all the useless results, what remains is a small sample of actual results in category titles that take up much of the space. Have you ever copied a large number of files and had it disrupted - did it finish? Are the files at the destination modified? How far did it get? Perhaps in 1991 there were limits to what could be done but in present day it has never been even looked into, much less improved. In the past I started to create a list but then I stopped myself - why bother? I'm not getting paid millions to solve these issues. What is it that you want fixed in the Finder?

This should become a Mac gripes thread to note down the many frustrations using macOS.įix the F Finder" does not help. That would be problematic if such file is open.įix The F Finder. Otherwise, files that were already copied would disappear after the copy is aborted, and you don't want the user to see files disappear like that. If you don't want to end up with a folder that is partially copied, you must prevent the user from browsing it. But I think the idea is that if you cancel the process, nothing gets copied and everything goes back to the previous state. I don't find quick look confusing at all. If the disk is not in use, there's no warning. The disk eject warning is supposed to be obnoxious since it warns you that things may break. Can two windows on separate monitors be both active at the same times on Windows? He appears to be confusing active windows and active monitors. I have no idea what he says about multiple monitors. If he cannot figure out what is what in mission control even though windows are grouped by app, he could just use the app switcher.

Many issues that he brings are not about Apple software but third-party apps, including Premiere. Why hasn’t apple fixed this and all the little things So a question from this graybeard Mac user to you all: why hasn’t apple fixed this and all the little things? Seems like it would be easy to polish these things up and become a real power OS. And a lot of stuff about adobe that I don’t care about. Quickview is nice but has a super confusing UI.

The disk eject warning is really obnoxious. Copying folders locks you from accessing the contents until the entire copy is done. Window management in multi monitor setup is weird. The dock really is basic and antiquated (though I don’t want the windows bar).

Here is the last of the three videos in the series that summarizes his experience: īut the issues he brings up are real and some I don’t understand how Apple had not fixed them. His frustrations are enough that he decided to go back to windows, but was convinced to keep the MacBook because it really is a great machine. He has a lot of cred and his opinions seem honest and fair.

So I was watching the excellent review of the new MacBook, but it’s really a review of the Mac OS by a Windows-using professional.
